Record-breaking year for US agriculture exports.
“The race for $200 (billion) is on.” US Department of Agriculture Foreign Agricultural Service administrator Daniel B. Whitley reportedly said. The agricultural industry experienced a record-breaking year in 2021 for export volumes even with many hurdles and obstacles in its way.
The industry adapted to bottlenecks and was able to move American-grown products all over the world, which propelled US agricultural exports to over $172.2 billion. Will the industry be able to top that incredible number in 2022? The US Agriculture Exports forecast for 2022 can be found here.
Houston-based carrier placed out-of-service after a deadly crash.
FMCSA has taken another carrier off the road after a deadly crash. Houston-based carrier, Koboat Trucking LLC, has been declared an imminent hazard, issued a federal out-of-service order, and has been forbidden from interstate and intrastate operation.
The company was cited numerous violations and charges have been brought against the driver of the truck that killed a Tennessee sheriff’s sergeant on Feb 3 in Knoxville, TN. Get the details on the crash and the investigation here.
FMCSA improves the process of reporting traffic violations for drivers and carriers.
The FMCSA removes redundancy issues for truck drivers and carriers in reporting traffic violations. Until now, truck drivers were required to provide a list of traffic violations to their carrier… AND…
Carriers were required to make an annual inquiry to obtain the motor vehicle record for each driver it employs from every state where the driver holds or has held a CMV operator’s license or permit in the past year. This policy change is estimated to save drivers and carriers $3.5 million annually.

State governments to propose strategies to help lower gas prices.
Governors across the US are strategizing to ease gas prices. They propose cutting gas taxes, offering rebates, and urging Congress to suspend federal gas taxes until 2023. The average gas price hit $4.25 per gallon as of March 8.
If the officials can save Americans money at that gas pump, consumers will have more money for rent, groceries, childcare, etc.

Canadian ELD enforcement is delayed until 2023.
The Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA) announced that ELD (Electronic Logging Device) enforcement in Canada will be delayed until Jan 1, 2023. Four provinces still do not have legislation in place to enforce the ELD mandates, which is one of the reasons for the delay. Other reasons cited are that there are not enough devices approved for use in Canada. Drivers crossing the border into the US are familiar with ELDs as the US has over 700 devices available for use. The Canadian Trucking Alliance was unhappy with the delay and believes that jurisdictions should have kept the June 1 launch date. Read more on the enforcement delay here.
