AB5 IS LAW | Carriers using owner-operators could violate AB5.

In California, any motor carrier using leased owner-operators to transport goods could violate the AB5 Independent Contractor Classification Law.
The US District Court for the Southern District of California lifted the injunction against the AB5 law on Monday.
Learn more about the violations and the future of the California transportation industry.
ARE YOU AT RISK? | New business partnerships require improved cyber-security.

Think you are too small for a cyber-attack?
Think again.
Almost two-thirds of the security breaches at larger companies, like Equifax & Walmart, resulted from hackers exploiting a supplier or third-party vendor security vulnerability.
As a result, more and more partnerships require specific cyber-security measures to be in place before doing business. Want to know how hackers are getting in and what you can do about it? Click here.
HAULING HEMP | What problems do carriers face in transporting hemp from state to state?

Transporting hemp cargo is a big emerging business, but it can still be risky for carriers, given a lack of government guidance.
The US Domestic Hemp Production Program was passed in 2019, but there has been little guidance on legally moving hemp products from state to state.
Kevin Schultz, with 357 Hemp Logistics, has some great insight into what can be done to protect drivers from being jailed and cargo from being confiscated.

REFINERY FIRE | FMCSA extends HOS waivers in response to BP oil refinery fire.

BP’s largest oil refinery in the world shut down on Monday due to a fire at the facility.
BP executives said that the Whiting, Indiana oil refinery fire was quickly extinguished, but they are unsure when the facility will restart production.
In response to the shutdown, the FMCSA has extended hours of service (HOS) waivers for fuel haulers in the midwest.
Find out the details about the exemption here.
CREATIVE STORAGE SOLUTIONS | Retailers are adapting to the warehouse shortage with creative solutions.

Retailers have devised a nimble solution to avoid the escalating costs of the warehouse space shortage.
The solution is scalable, mobile, and easy to access.
Retailers now utilize transportation trailers and shipping containers as mobile warehouses to house their overflowing inventories.
There are a few tactics some retailers are using if they are short on parking space for these ad-hoc storage facilities… find out more here.
